Hosted by Khenpo Namdrol, the Shedra East is the most pivotal initiative of the Rigpa Shedra, offering a comprehensive Dharma education for those aspiring to contribute to the transmission of the authentic Dharma to the West. The shedra offers Dharma practitioners who wish to deepen and broaden their understanding of the path, and also students who aim to become translators and scholars, the opportunity to engage in long periods of Dharma study.
The approach is traditional, based on proven methods of an unbroken lineage of learning and realization and encourages formal study together with deeper integration of the teachings through contemplation and meditation; continuing the tradition of centers of learning such as Nalanda in India, Shri Singha shedra at Dzogchen Monastery, Kham-jé at Dzongsar and more recently, Larung Gar, established by the great Khen Rinpoche Jikmé Phuntsok. Under the direction of Khenpo Namdrol, classical Dharma texts are taught by highly qualified Tibetan khenpos and acharyas trained at His Holiness Penor Rinpoche’s shedra, the Ngagyur Nyingma Institute at the Palyul Namdroling Monastery in Mysore, Southern India. In addition students study logic and reasoning, debating and a complete course in classical and colloquial Tibetan. Other short courses, pilgrimages and teachings by visiting Lamas punctuate the programme.
