Shedra East<\/span><\/h3>\n

2006<\/strong><\/h4>\n

In 2006 the first Rigpa Shedra East<\/span> took place at the Palyul Retreat Centre in Kathmandu, Nepal. Students spent four months studying Mipham Rinpoche\u2019s Khenjuk<\/a> <\/em>with Khenpo Pasang Tenzin, translated by Gyurme Avertin.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2007, the Shedra East focused on Shantideva’s classic text, the Bodhicharyavatara with <\/em><\/a>Khenpo S\u00f6nam Tobden<\/a>, translated by Gyurme Avertin.\u00a0<\/em>MP3 audio files of these teachings are available here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In 2008, Shedra East students studied\u00a0 Shantarakshita<\/a>‘s Ornament of the Middle Way<\/a> (Skt. Madhyam\u0101la\u1e43k\u0101ra; Tib. Uma Gyen<\/em>),\u00a0with Khenpo S\u00f6nam Tobden<\/a>, translated by Gyurme Avertin.<\/p>\n

2009<\/strong><\/h4>\n

In 2009, the Shedra East focused on the Uttaratantra Shastra<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (Tib. Gyu Lama<\/em>), Buddha Maitreya<\/a>\u2019s famous treatise on buddha nature<\/a>, following Mipham Rinpoche<\/a>\u2019s commentary. In addition,\u00a0 Khenpo Namdrol<\/a> taught on Mipham Rinpoche\u2019s original treatise entitled \u2018Lion\u2019s Roar, an Exposition of Buddha Nature<\/em>\u2018.<\/a><\/p>\n

At Sogyal Rinpoche\u2019s request, at the end of the 2009 Shedra East courses, students devoted an entire month to strict personal retreat.<\/p>\n

2010<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The main text studied at Shedra East in 2010 was Madhyamakavatara<\/a><\/em> (Tib. Umajukpa<\/em>) and its auto-commentary by Chandrakirti<\/a> with Khenpo S\u00f6nam Tobden<\/a>, translated by Gyurme Avertin<\/p>\n

2011<\/span><\/h4>\n

Teachings on Mipham Rinpoche<\/a>‘s commentary on the Abhisamayalankara<\/a><\/i> with Khenpo S\u00f6nam Tobden<\/a>, translated by Stefan Gueffroy.<\/p>\n

2012<\/span><\/h4>\n

Shedra East students studied either Shantideva<\/a>\u2019s Bodhicharyavatara<\/a><\/i>, using the commentary by Khenpo Kunzang Palden<\/a>, taught by Ane Lop\u00f6n Damchoe Wangmo and translated by Melanie Slomka and Damien van Effenterre, or the Guhyagarbha Tantra<\/a><\/i>, using the commentary by Mipham Rinpoche<\/a>, taught by Khenpo S\u00f6nam Tobden<\/a> and translated by Gyurme Avertin.<\/p>\n

Three texts were offered to Shedra East students for study: Shantideva<\/a>\u2019s Bodhicharyavatara<\/a><\/i>, taught by Ane Lop\u00f6n Sangye Paldr\u00f6n and translated by Melanie Slomka and Damien van Effenterre; the Khenjuk<\/a><\/i>, by Mipham Rinpoche<\/a>, taught by Lop\u00f6n Tenzin Wangd\u00fc and translated by Damien van Effenterre and Roger Espel Llima; and the Guhyagarbha Tantra<\/a><\/i>, using the Key to the Precious Treasury<\/a><\/i> commentary by Dodrupchen Jikm\u00e9 Tenp\u00e9 Nyima<\/a>, taught by Lop\u00f6n Tashi Tseten<\/a> with translation by Ane Lop\u00f6n Damchoe Wangmo (Canada).<\/p>\n

2014<\/span><\/h4>\n

Shedra East students studied the Bodhicharyavatara<\/a><\/i>, taught by Ane Lop\u00f6n Phuntsok Chamdrol and translated by Christina Monson; Shantarakshita<\/a>\u2019s Ornament of the Middle Way<\/a><\/i>, with commentary by Mipham Rinpoche<\/a>, taught by Lop\u00f6n Lodr\u00f6 Palge and translated by Damien van Effenterre; and Finding Comfort and Ease in the Nature of Mind<\/a><\/i>, part of the Trilogy of Finding Comfort and Ease<\/a><\/i> by Longchenpa<\/a>, taught by Khenpo Gyatso with translation by Ane Lop\u00f6n Damchoe Wangmo (Canada). In addition Khenchen Namdrol<\/a> taught for six weeks to 76 students.<\/p>\n

2015<\/span><\/h4>\n

The three texts offered to Shedra East students for study included the Bodhicharyavatara<\/a><\/i> using Khenpo Shenga<\/a>\u2019s commentary, taught by Ane Lop\u00f6n Phuntsok Chamdrol and translated by Daniela Hartman and Han Kop; Maitreya<\/a>\u2019s Uttaratantra Shastra<\/a><\/i> using Mipham Rinpoche<\/a>\u2019s commentary as well as his The Lion’s Roar: A Commentary on Sugatagarbha<\/a><\/i>, taught in English by Ane Lop\u00f6n Damchoe Wangmo (Canada); and the Guhyagarbha Tantra<\/a><\/i> using the Essence of Clear Light<\/a><\/i> commentary by Mipham Rinpoche<\/a>, taught by Lop\u00f6n Tashi Tseten, with translation by Christina Monson. An additional six students joined the Uttaratantra class for a one-month short option teaching on the Four tenet systems<\/a>, using Mipham Rinpoche<\/a>‘s Summary of the Wish-Fulfilling Treasury\u2019s Chapter on Tenet Systems<\/a><\/i>, based on a text by Longchenpa<\/a>, also taught in English by Ane Lop\u00f6n Damchoe Wangmo (Canada).<\/p>\n

2016<\/span><\/h4>\n

The Shedra East students received teachings on the Bodhicharyavatara<\/a><\/i>, taught in English by Chantal Bergers; Chandrakirti<\/a>\u2019s Introduction to the Middle Way<\/a><\/i>, using Mipham Rinpoche<\/a>\u2019s commentary, taught in English by Ane Lop\u00f6n Damchoe Wangmo (Canada); or the chapter 10 of Jikme Lingpa<\/a>\u2019s Y\u00f6nten Dz\u00f6<\/a><\/i>, taught by Lop\u00f6n Tashi Tseten and translated by Christina Monson.<\/p>\n

2017<\/span><\/h4>\n

The Shedra East students received teachings on the Abhisamayalankara<\/a><\/i>, taught by Lop\u00f6n Penpo Tsering and translated by Roger Espel and Han Kop. Shedra East also hosted students of the Milinda Programme who studied four different Madhyamaka texts, each for a two week period.<\/p>\n

The Shedra East students received teachings on the Bodhicharyavatara<\/a><\/i>, taught in English by Verena Pfeiffer<\/a>; and Mipham Rinpoche<\/a>\u2019s Beacon of Certainty<\/a><\/i>, taught by Khenpo Tashi Tseten and translated by Christina Monson. Also this year, another Shedra East first, Chantal Bergers taught\u00a0an on-line course on the Bodhicharyavatara, which was followed by over 90 students.<\/p>\n

The shedra East students received teachings on Finding Comfort and Ease in the Nature of Mind<\/a><\/i>, with Khenpo Tashi Tseten, translated by Christina Monson, January-February 2020<\/p>\n

Shedra West<\/span><\/h4>\n

2001<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The Rigpa Shedra began in Lerab Ling<\/a> in the summer of 2001. Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche<\/a> and Ringu Tulku Rinpoche both taught on the ninth chapter of Shantideva\u2019s Bodhicharyavatara<\/em>.<\/p>\n

2002<\/strong><\/h4>\n

For the second year, Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche gave a commentary on Maitreya\u2019s Uttaratantra Shastra<\/em><\/a>, Ringu Tulku taught Mipham Rinpoche\u2019s Wheel of Investigative Meditation<\/span><\/em><\/a> and Professor Steven Goodman<\/span> introduced the basic themes of the Abhidharma.<\/p>\n

2003<\/strong><\/h4>\n

For the third year, which took place in Dzogchen Beara in Ireland, Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche taught on Maitreya\u2019s Abhisamayalankara<\/em><\/a> and Alan Wallace<\/span><\/a> presented the views of the four main philosophical schools of Buddhism. Students also reviewed Ringu Tulku Rinpoche\u2019s teachings on the whole of the Bodhicharyavatara<\/em>.<\/p>\n

2004<\/strong><\/h4>\n

For the fourth year, Dzogchen Rinpoche<\/a> taught on the Abhisamayalankara<\/em> and introduced us to buddhist debate, and Ringu Tulku Rinpoche began his teachings on Shantarakshita\u2019s Madhyamakalankara<\/em><\/a> using the commentary of Mipham Rinpoche.<\/p>\n

2005<\/strong><\/h4>\n

In the fifth year, the shedra was once again at home in Lerab Ling. We had the pleasure of welcoming back Ringu Tulku Rinpoche, the Rigpa Shedra\u2019s most regular teacher, for the second and final year of his brilliant commentary upon Mipham Rinpoche\u2019s celebrated exposition of the Ornament of the Middle Way<\/em> by Khenpo Shantarakshita. Each day, Rinpoche delivered a brilliant and seemingly effortless summary of as many as thirty or forty pages of text, masterfully encapsulating the essential meaning of the treatise.<\/p>\n

For the second part, we had the good fortune to study Haribhadra<\/a>\u2019s Clear Meaning<\/span><\/em> commentary on the Abhisamayalankara<\/em> with the young and brilliant Khenpo Jampal Dorje<\/span> from Dzongsar Monastery in India. During his lively and extremely detailed presentation, he drew upon the writings of the great Sakyapa master Kunkhyen Gorampa<\/a> and especially upon the annotation commentary of the great Khenpo Shenga, to whose lineage he himself belongs.<\/p>\n

2010<\/strong><\/h4>\n

From May 14 to May 16 2010<\/a>, Ringu Tulku Rinpoche<\/a> taught in Lerab Ling<\/a> on An Instruction on the View of the Mahayana Clarifying the Two Truths<\/em><\/a>, a short text on the two truths<\/a> by Patrul Rinpoche<\/a>.<\/p>\n

From May 25 till June 5 2010<\/a>, Khenpo Pema Sherab<\/a> taught the first of a series of teachings on Mipham Rinpoche<\/a>‘s Beacon of Precious Certainty<\/a><\/em> concluding Lerab Ling<\/a>‘s 2010 Shedra West programme.<\/p>\n

2011<\/span><\/h4>\n

Khenchen Pema Sherab Shedra West 2011 taught on Mipham Rinpoche’s Beacon of Precious Certainty.<\/p>\n

2012<\/span><\/h4>\n

Khenchen Pema Sherab<\/a> finished Mipham Rinpoche<\/a>\u2019s Beacon of Certainty<\/a><\/i> and then began teaching the Y\u00f6nten Dz\u00f6<\/a><\/i> by Jikme Lingpa<\/a>, with translation by Khenpo Tensing Norgay and Gyurme Avertin.<\/p>\n
